My Weekend at Home

Ever since we've moved into the homestead {the term our family and friends use when talking about the house} we just don't seem to want to leave. Weekends are spent here with lots of family and friends dropping in for a swim and for lunch. This weekend was no different. Whilst pottering around the homestead this morning I rearranged some of my blue and white things in the cabinet in our kitchen. I must say I think I really am turning into my mother now...should I be concerned? I haven't used one bit of pink in this cabinet which is such a refreshing change for me.

Whilst Brad was standing in the kitchen this morning preparing lunch for our friends I couldn't stop looking at his navy check shorts and immediately made the decision to get our new dining chairs made in navy and white check. I have been trying to decide on a fabric for our new dining chairs for a while so now, based on Brad's shorts, the decision has been made!

We seem to have a standard menu for kid's at the homestead....sausages on bread with tomato sauce. It's so easy and it seems that most children will eat sausages on a bread roll.

Whilst enjoying a bit of sunshine around the pool today I also enjoyed looking at my orchids which have just bloomed.

I also tried to enjoy a few moments reading one of my gardening books around the pool but Ned just wouldn't leave me alone.

It seemed that all he wanted was my hat.

Ever since we have started swimming in the pool over the last few weeks Ned has been angling at diving in and today he did it. He dived in and then we just couldn't stop him from diving in. It was very funny, I must say.

How was your weekend?
xo

What a fabulous weekend Anna - we aren't enjoying hot enough weather down here for that kind of outdoor fun.

Tell Brad he better hold onto his shorts, he may end up sitting on them rather than wearing them!

Gorgeous sneak look at your kitchen Anna x

Adore blue and white in a kitchen - it's beautiful!! I'm envious of your swimming and enjoying the warm weather...it's too cold for that in NC...

Love your cabinet with the blues and whites. And yes the checks on the shorts would look sooooo good as a lounge:-) I love check lounges with floral cushions.
I think it is nice to finally make decisions on larger items for the house.
Glad you had a lovely weekend. Your photos are so summery.

Anna- So lovely! That you'll look at those finished dining chairs and always remember your husband's backside- those little things made design so much fun. And brave Ned is sweet, even dripping wet.

If you would like, visit my new blog APPLESandRUBIES? I'm giving away a pair of my earrings this week could sneak them off to you in an ex-pat's luggage if you won...

Best to you,
Loretta

Fall is just getting started here; and when I read your blog, I am already missing summer! We are starting to wake up to 30ish temp and I have pulled out the apple cider, etc. I have you on my blogroll. It helps me imagine summer. Just love your posts.
We live in Birmingham, Alabama and I can't even imagine growing orchids in the ground! Also, your blog reminds me of my honeymoon. We spent time in Sydney, on Hayman Island and in Brisbane. It was such a wonderful trip. Would love to return someday! Have a wonderful week. www.interiordesignmusings.blogspot.com

Sounds like a wonderful weekend!

I had a tiny two-seater sofa in a corner of my kitchen in London, covered in Ian Mankin's big blue-and-white check, and I was totally in love with it. I still have an apron made from the leftover - wish I had the sofa...

Our weekend has been wonderful as well, although not over yet since we are only halfway through Sunday here in the American Mid-Atlantic.

My husband and I recently purchased a new home after years of living in a townhouse and this new place has become "the place to be" among our friends, much like yours. We are unique in that we have an acre at the end of a tidal creak and most of our friends live in the city or north of town. I get numerous calls a week from friends who need a little getaway.

Now, if only we can get some of them to help us rake leaves because they are really coming down this time of year!

Just kidding, but then again ...

Love the blue and white.

I've just spent the weekend harvesting olives and my muscles are aching. I think I need a weekend hanging around in the sun by the pool!

Good to know you had a wonderful weekend.

Hello
I spent a couple of hours yesterday doing a very quirky, very 'farmy' thing:

I lay in the paddock with my husband, very very still, allowing the inquisitive cows and calves to sniff, lick and chew on whatever they could - hats, shoes, hair, even an elbow!

It was a very magical experience, one, i think, that we will try to repeat someday.

You just never know where you're going to find design inspiration :-)

Love the picture of Ned wearing your hat :-) We have a Lab, and we can't keep her out of the water - even if it's just a puddle, she has to jump into it!
